Anecdotally I was exposed to investing in my mid-20s with a small chunk of stock left to me by my grandmother. That triggered me to learn what stock was, what investing was, what strategies were, and that turned into a lifelong interest. The amount wasn’t “significant” in terms of impact on my lifestyle but the opportunity to explore and learn investing has ended up hugely significant now 25 years later.

I don’t have kids but if I did I thought the best approach would be to drop an investment seed on them (like grandma did to me) when they were mature enough to not blow it on lifestyle and understood the benefits of longterm growth. Then let them figure out how to manage and nurture it giving advice if they asked.

Dropping the entire stash on a kid seems like a recipe for disaster unless Junior has been hustling lemonade stands from the get go and is ready for the challenge.
