The result of the [comment-to-vote proposal](https://www.reddit.com/r/ethtrader/comments/1cua3hx/governance_poll_proposal_overhaul_donut_rewards/) has already been established. Carl and Aminok have a combined governance weight of \~15M, which wields substantial, or dare I say ultimate influence within the DAO.
Recent polls have shown quorum ranging from 7M to 15M, even without Carl's vote, and sometimes without Aminok's. To "fight" their votes, the collective governance would need a total weight of at least 15M, a scenario unlikely to happen, ever.
With that being said, it's useless to try to argue against these types of proposals. But that does not mean we can't make an appeal, to try to find a middle ground.
This thread serves as one last effort to propose some adjustments to the comment-to-vote proposal:
1. **Make it an experimental trial.** Before making the comment-to-vote system permanent, I propose trying an experimental trial of 1-3 rounds, to evaluate the distribution and subreddit performance. 2. **Exclude comment rewards from this system, for now.** Initially, limit the system to posts alone. Comments are less rewarding than posts already. And with a proposed comment cap of 50 comments a day on the way, including comments in this system would most likely reduce activity in comment sections. 3. **Remove Pay2Post fee.** Since the number of upvotes will drastically drop, this could discourage users from posting. 4. **Give a full multiplier for penalized flairs.** This applies to Self Story, Comedy, and Media, as these will be the most affected by the new system. However, some regulation may be necessary to prevent spamming of low-effort content (memes, charts, etc). 5. **No changes in the distribution formula.** Any changes to the distribution formula should be discussed with the governance first, to maintain transparency and fairness. 6. **Set a minimum requirement for the tips.** I suggest a minimum of 1 Donut for the tips command to be executed. This would make sure that authors are rewarded and that votes are implemented.
I believe that by adding these suggestions we make sure that we address cheaters, alts, and manipulators. But not at the cost of penalizing the earnings of average contributors and active members of EthTrader.
A subreddit is only as good as its members. A subreddit thrives on the contributions and engagement of its members. They are the pillar of a community, they define its content and drive its growth.
Penalizing the earnings of these valuable, genuine, organic members ultimately penalizes the entire sub. We need to make sure that contributors are fairly rewarded for their efforts, this is how we retain their valuable input, and preserve the quality and vitality of the entire community. Don't forget that "***Donuts are tokens that represent community contribution & engagement on the*** r/ethtrader ***subreddit."***
I am committed to serve as a bridge between the developers, moderators and EthTrader's contributors. I always invest significant time, effort, and energy into creating a solution that satisfies all parties.
One final note. I would not be in favor of a system with a significant gap between a small percentage of larger holders, with massive governance weight, and the majority of average and active users with lower governance power, which isn't enough to match the weight of a few major holders. I think that's what comment-to-vote will promote.
