The question is not whether they knew the similarity. The question is whether it actually is a clone and whether they tried to sell it as if it was your own personal scarjo or sth. I honestly did not get that vibe from their marketing. I just got the general vibe that they were marketing a computer that can talk to you with emotions and empathy and such.

But perhaps my judgement is clouded by the fact that I actually do hear it so distinct that it never crossed my mind that it was scarjo, even after being primed with the "Her" tweet. Also I can't imagine that they were seriously attempting to clone scarjo given how good we know current voice cloning tech is. Clearly some people hear it much more similar for some reason, and I agree that if I was one of them my opinion would be different. And if I see some stats that show I'm the outlier wtr how they sound as distinct then I'll change my mind.
