Getting an online brokerage account is first. And you don’t sound like someone who’s going to be heavily interested or want to follow this very closely. So I honestly suggest simply putting your money in VOO.
and that’s it. That’s the S&P 500. Go away and look at it maybe in a couple years And add more money.
suggesting some complicated plan you’re not gonna follow it just gonna make it so you’re less interested in investing and you’re gonna end up screwing up.
VOO has centuries of data and with **dividends reinvested** (a simple option every brokerage has and you need to find so you can toggle it on), it should be getting about 10% return a year. Every year.
It will average differently and some weeks will be down some months will be down, but over the long-haul that’s what you should get.
Other people might suggest even more diversified funds, but I think VOO is really all you need. And it seems about the limit to what you’re going to wanna deal with.
Good luck
