> Every month there was a stupid meeting called the All Hands Meeting where the supervisors and hire ups would try to emotionally manipulate us by telling us that we the assemblers mattered and showed us pictures of injured and ill people BD devices had helped. They said our job saved lives.

They did something similar at my workplace, too, but they were called All Employee Meetings. Was more about the plant's future and stuff. Still, there was the same daily, shitty emotional manipulation and mental gymnastics about saving lives like we were EMTs or some shit. My mom's a nurse, someone who has directly saved lives, so I never bought into the BD propaganda from day one. But it was really sickening to see just how many coworkers fell for it and it was often used as a tactic to get people to grind themselves to dust (It especially worked on the more easily guilt-tripped managers who worked overtime.) Happens all the time in hospitals, but it's pathetic to see in a factory setting. Now that you've brought it up, it just hit how fucked up the emotional manipulation was, and nobody ever brought up just how much of a mental stretch it was. It's like someone having an overwhelming sense of pride and heroism for being in the army, but they were the person in the back playing the drums for the marching band.

Little to no appreciation either. Temps were treated like second class citizens. Best we got were shitty pizza parties and shaved ice. Raises to meet market demand took like 3+ years to be approved and, by then, they were subpar once more ($14.75 per hour -> $15.50). Side note: their IT department is nothing but outsourced garbage.

And yeah, we also had a medical device kill someone out in the field a few years ago. It was kept on the down low. I only heard about it, but my best guess is that the victim settled out of court by now. Never had devices catch on fire, thank god.
