What company is going to let you download an image from their website they own the copyright to and use it as you see fit?
You think Nintendo would let people scrape and use an image of Mario? Or Disney and Mickey Mouse?
That’s why all of these AI companies are getting sued lol. In the eyes of the company, it’s no different than ripping a DVD and uploading it online. Until laws are changed or there’s a big development in regulation around the use of data when it comes to AI, companies are going to act this way.
Just because Sam Altman *thinks* his company should be able to view and train their “AI” on NYT articles and YouTube videos without ever paying for them doesn’t mean everyone else is going to agree and take it lying down.
