Nothing "dumb" about them, or anything specific that you said. Communicating via email, in an efficient manner/without spending too much time crafting emails while staying professional, is just another skill folks have to develop.

Unless you're specifically doing an IS/IT degree of some kind, I don't expect most people to understand managing AD. People are going to Tiktok (or youtube) for a visual tutorial that has audio instructions, visual depictions of what to do, and the ability to follow along and implement/learn in the process. It's like going to Stack Overflow or Reddit before/instead of reading the actual technical documentation - it's not a good practice by any means, but because the option is easily accessible, that's what folks have been trained to do.

Gen Z is also in a weird place where consumer electronics were "too easy" to use during a hefty chunk of their childhoods. It's just about what you're exposed to. Chromebooks (cheap and effectively have a stranglehold in schools) and smartphone interfaces can be used without understanding the basics of using files and folders and don't necessarily translate to a traditional Windows/*nix OS. I know plenty of people that basically operate out of Google Docs, where you can search for what you need and most of the background metadata is hidden from you. I remember troubleshooting home network issues and homelabbing as a kid, because that was the only option to get things to work. There are still people who do that today, but you don't "have" to do that just to get working technology because so much stuff is easy to use, plug and play, and just works.
