I think that people who graduated high school in 2020 and then went to a 4 year college that year had it the worst of any class in my (considerable) lifetime:

1. As the article said, they got cheated out of the end of their high school experience. 2. They also started school when everything was remote. I made some of my best lifelong friends my freshman year in college. 3. For many, their senior year of college was rocked by the war in Gaza protests. Many universities cancelled commencements for kids that didn't get a graduation in HS. 4. Now, especially for kids in majors likely to go into tech, they are graduating into probably the worst environment in the past 20 years (yes, the Great Recession was obviously bad, but I'd argue for cases like computer science majors, the Great Recession wasn't as bad as the .com bust).

I live in Austin and the tech market here is just abysmal, and the appetite for e.g. junior devs is particularly bad because (a) there are a ton of experienced people looking for work, and (b) outsourcing especially to places like Latin America and Eastern Europe has really just exploded over the past ~5 years since Zoom etc. really took off.
