A Russian nuclear strike on Ukraine is basically the start of WW3, any way you look at it. The question is how much it grows from there (whether China or anyone else decides to get in the mix, for whatever reason) and how long before it’s over (since Russia’s forward deployments will have been obliterated by a US/NATO response immediately, and even *their* response to a NATO response is unlikely to be hugely successful). No matter what, any use of nuclear arms for any reason will trigger an immediate and *decisive* retaliatory response. The point being to show that Russia using nukes to dominate only ensures the end of the entire conflict, by way the complete annihilation of Russia’s military capability.
