I see a lot of good answers on this thread but didn't see what I am pretty sure was the one of the most correct answers from 1900 to 1999.

The USA has/had the fairest / best democratic government with a very good system of check and balances. It was well established and maintained a stable economy. Meanwhile over 100 other countries in those same 100 years had revolts and major changes to their govt due to war and revolts and other catastrophies.

In my opinion, during the past 25 years the US Govt has changed A LOT. but we were so far ahead in 1999 that it hasn't all fallen apart just yet.
