The "corporations picking sides" narrative is bullshit.

First because corporations don't have opinions. That's reserved for people. Corporations aren't.

Second, because only a very small number of corporate executives have collectively decided to speak out, and then only on an extremely limited number of issuee. Disney is the prominent example these days, as they expressed an opinion against the Don't Say Gay bill in Florida. Contrast that with the number of "Christian companies" and you'll find that the 'activist corps' are vastly outnumbered. Hell, the Catholic Church owns and operates a very significant percentage of all the hospitals in America (CHI stands for "Catholic Health Initiatives"). Hobby Lobby Chick-fil-A, and dozens of other actively religious corporations constantly use their religious freedom as a reason why they can't provide people, specifically women, with a modern standard of health care. Yet these corps aren't denounced as being political.

Third, corporations are based off products, not ideologies. They make money. If their goal was to promote an ideology, they would have created a Foundation or something similar. Making an ideological stance a fundamental part of your product is scam, turning your ideological self-identification into a cost-free revenue stream for them.

Fourth, corporate executive using the weight of their corporation to express political opinions is practically a tradition in America. This is not new, nor is it somehow worse today than it was in the past. Just as many corporations made a stand over the Vietnam war as they are about LGBT rights today.

Selling ideology is not somehow understandable. It's a scam meant to prey on people too indoctrinated into their own cultural mythos.
