Except that Israel was never supposed to have East Jerusalem, or any part of Jerusalem for that matter, in the first place. By definition Israel is the occupier as much as Jordan was. If you "liberate" territory, you return it to the original *de jure* owner. The problem here being that the *de jure* entity that should own Jerusalem was never established, thus nobody can liberate any part of it. If any existing state controls a part of Jerusalem, they are occupying that territory.
