The bill, as amended currently, addresses 99% of the concerns people are stating here. Not only does it make it illegal for a business to retain the identifying information, it also requires reasonable steps to anonymize it. In its current form, it will allow the use of device-based age verification and anonymous age verification tokens, which basically just tell the website yes or no to the question "Is this person over 18?"

If it happens this way it will be a good thing. We badly need a reliable age verification system for more than just porn. Kids are also getting exposed to social media and other sites way too early.

Not only that, but will be the first step needed in modernizing our identity system, which is sorely needed because the current system is so vulnerable to data leaks and identity theft.
