I am conflicted in all of this. I served in the military for many years and was deployed several times. The AR 15 is the rifle type I had for many years and today is my rifle of choice to go target shooting. Rifle safety on base was always stressed and I could never even think of pointing a weapon at another person who wasn’t trying to shoot me. I go to an open public range where everyone practices proper safety. I have noticed that video games have morphed over the years from the simple tennis/ping-pong Atari systems to simply mega shoot out games and I question the desensitization of our youth. Running around with a rifle shooting people is almost like the video games and that bothers me. What are the right actions? Do we raise the age limit of owning a rifle? Do we enforce the laws in place? Do we stream-line the laws so they make more sense and less loop holes? I personally would like to see tougher punishments for anyone who uses a weapon in a crime, shooting, theft, you name it. Some of this comes from home. Failure to teach proper safety, most of these shooters have troubled backgrounds - how did they get a weapon? I’d like to see the law abiding people be able to continue to enjoy their freedoms and rights and the violators severely inhibited. You may agree with some of this, none of this, who knows? But it’s my humble opinion. At the end of the day, no parent should ever receive a call that their child was shot in school.
