Just did a lil dive.

[Recent scientific measurement campaigns, some of them supported by UNEP, have shown that methane emissions from oil and gas operations are much higher than was estimated earlier. Methane is a powerful greenhouse gas, about 84 times more potent than carbon dioxide measured over a 20-year period, so any emissions undermine its credentials as a better fossil fuel. So, “cleaner” is probably not the best word to describe natural gas. But provided that methane emissions are well managed, it’s not as problematic in terms of planetary warming as coal or oil](https://www.unep.org/news-and-stories/story/natural-gas-really-bridge-fuel-world-needs#:~:text=Methane%20is%20a%20powerful%20greenhouse,word%20to%20describe%20natural%20gas.)

[Methane severely exacerbates climate change, but also has a number of indirect effects on human health, crop yields and the health of vegetation through its role as a precursor to the formation of tropospheric ozone.](https://www.ccacoalition.org/short-lived-climate-pollutants/methane)

So yeah... not a great option. Looks like we need to stop emitting before we start converting.
