I wouldn't call people's inaction or choice to keep a device as-is a failure. People tend to walk around with broken phones quite a lot, to the point where they end up replacing them instead of repairing them. Clearing ports/holes/buttons of debris isn't exactly common either.
I'd say that in the scope of 'what percentage of users makes the choice the repair their broken phone', only half is not a lot. I suppose it can be cultural, because in some places around the world, people also drive around in damaged cars, don't repair broken windows in their homes and don't regularly maintain painted surfaces. In other places, people might have their stuff repaired the very next day.
