Hello, /r/investing! I’m trying to figure out if it’s possible (realistic) to grow a retirement fund of $350k to $2.5MM in 15 years, with continued contributions.

Breakdown of the funds (all VTI/VTSAX):

401k - $300k

Roth IRA - $50k

Brokerage - $50k

HSA - $1k

Monthly Contributions:

*401a/403b - $3000

Roth IRA - $500

HSA - $300 (starting now)

According to investment calculators, 2.5MM should be achievable in 15 years, assuming an annual (avg.) gain of 8%.

*401a does not count towards personal contribution limits

My questions are as follows:

1. I know the average return rate of the market is ~10%, but my timeline is 15 years, so that may change the dynamic a bit. Is an 8% gain realistic within this time?

2. Is there a more optimized way of investing these funds? I max out my 401k, Roth IRA, and I am now starting to max my HSA so I can use that as another tax advantaged bucket. Granted that I remain employed by the same employer for the next 15 years, is there any other way I should have these funds positioned or invested?

3. Is it worth using my HSA as another tax advantaged bucket, seeing as ~$4k is the annual max?

Thank you!
