The fundamental issues with natural gas is it can't easily be transported worldwide.
So when you have local surplus there is no where for the product to go so the price falls to just above marginal production cost.
With oil, there is almost always a market somewhere in limited supply so barring 2008 or the pandemic where there is a dramatic global reduction in demand the price holds up okay even when new supply comes online. It may fall but usually still way higher than natural gas on a per energy basis.
Edit: to add, the same thing works in the opposite way, in Europe when Russia reduced supply, the price went through the roof because cheap US gas could not be imported easily.
