We have been giving them aid piecemeal because giving foreign aid is not as simple as dumping a trillion dollars worth of stuff on Ukraine in a big pile and saying, "Here ya go, boys! Get out there and kick some ass!"

This war has proven many of our weapons useful, and others useless - and it is not optimal to give aid until you know what is going to work and what will not.

In late summer of 2022, US intelligence considered probability of Russian nuke deployment in Ukraine a coin toss.

Given a 50/50 chance that full escalation by the West could lead to such a catastrophic outcome, giving Ukraine permission to hit Russia with Western weapons would be insane.

We want Ukraine to win, but we have to be smarter about how victory is achieved than your average impatient reddit armchair General.

Worth noting:

WWII began in September 1939.

The US stayed out of it until December 1941 - and D-Day did not occur until 1944.

War fighting is hard and time consuming, dude.

NATO has plans regarding this war. Some they openly discuss, others they ain't publishing where you can read them on reddit.
