It’s roughly 40k a year not including 2.5 months or almost a quarter of the year for those who don’t work in summer, on average. That’s decent money in 80% of the us, especially for a 75% of the year job. Teachers in large cities can easily make close to six figures (or somewhat close I should say) within 5 or so years of starting if they are good and work for a well paying employer, public or private. Yeah probably underpaid but it’s not like they are raking in minimum wage. How Many people are homeless at worst or have suffered serious financial issues because they are just poor due to being a teacher? Probably not many out there, because they have a degree that’s hard to find so they can almost always find work even if not particularly desirable, they have good benefits, and they literally just don’t work as much as other people simply, so this shouldn’t be a major issue but I guess is an issue, to a degree. Just my two cents
