True. But I fear it is also because many of those you mention do not have (or think they have) enough *time* for themselves, much less for the kids

Before, women were expected to dedicate part of their time taking care of their home and children, but now that they are also "grinding" to progress in their careers (specially in places like Japan)... they simply do not have the time/energy to do so. And the idea of men leaving the workplace is frown upon, so there is no one to focus on that task. Both men and women go home after a long day of work, do the minimum they can and go to bed. Repeat until old and alone.
