Starlink will never be able to handle the bandwidth required to outcompete broadband or even basic internet where available. Starlink is explicitly designed from the ground up to only be used in remote areas and areas not on feasibly serviced by alternatives other than typical GEO satellites and dialup.

They’ve already had tons of issues and complaints about speeds being drastically slower than advertised due to not enough bandwidth, even though it’s not *fully* built out, it is past the phase 1 build out and significantly below performance for what they promised at this stage. Like it’s not even remotely close. Is it great for battlefields like Ukraine where they otherwise have no access? Absolutely. Would it be fantastic for remote communities in Africa now? Absolutely and is already being used and funded by the governments to do so. It is not, however, better than having a hardline basic cable connection and is significantly more expensive to operate and maintain.
