It's super rare for people to falsely confess when not under pressure by the police to do so. Although, I have to say, the evidence at trial made it super clear that Letby lies a lot. But there's nothing except her own self serving testimony to suggest that she was lying when she wrote "I KILLED THOSE BABIES ON PURPOSE" in her own private journal. Obviously, the jury made their own decision about whether she was telling the truth in her journal.
And wrong, even if you take her written confession out, there's still a ton of evidence against her.
There are just SO MANY pieces of incriminating evidence.
But the New Yorker article should not have been suppressed, even at the risk of spreading misinformation.
