> Because it’s one of the fundamentals of a decentralized currency.
Not only is it not "fundamental", but it's not even A part at all, 0%, of a decentralized currency.
Decentralized means "not centralized", and centralized means: "controlled by a single authority or managed in one place."
If something isn't currently controlled by a single authority or managed in one place, then it is decentralized. It can also meanwhile be fair, not fair, big, small, PoW, PoS, in a box, with a fox, on a train, on a plane, or whatever else, all irrelevant. The concepts of "decentralized" and "fair or not" *objectively* have no relation to one another.
> No one owns it, ~~no one got an unfair advantage~~, no one controls it, ~~etc~~
ftfy by removing the parts that objectively have nothing to do with the definition of "decentralized."
> This is what got me into this space. The idea that you could have a true currency not controlled by anybody.
Great, that's fine, but that means you got into the space for reasons totally unrelated to decentralization, since this has zero correlation with decentralization.
> I would never buy into a “decentralized” currency where the founder gave themselves free coins.
I would never buy a green tshirt that was 2 sizes too small for me. The size still has zero relation to the color. By definition.
