Paying people more increases demand. More of the money is in the hands of working class people more likely to spend it/consume it and have lots of immediate needs to satisfy than in the hands of the wealthy, who are more likely to save it and who have already met their immediate demands. So yes, there being more money in the hands of poorer, working class people does result in more demand and hence more production to meet that demand? I think the issue is not about increasing the total amount of money in the system but increasing the percentage distributed to workers instead of already-wealthy owners.
