It seems like ChatGPT is at least somewhat decent at this right now.

I've done some testing some of uploading long PDFs and Text, it seems like formatting can make or break it.

Here's the breakdown of one I did really recently with a book I had read a couple years ago called [Two years in the Klondike](https://archive.org/details/twoyearsinklond00haskgoog) which was published in 1898 and is 578 pages long.

**1)** I first asked some questions about the book, to see what it already knew. It knew the title and author but when I started asking specific questions about the book it's answers were completely made up and wrong.

**2)** Next I used python to convert the PDF to a .txt file and uploaded that, asking similar specific questions about the book. I was really impressed with the results, it read the file quickly and gave me accurate responses to things that happened towards the end of the book. Asking about specific events in the book it accurately captured the events and the emotions tied to them. There may have been slight inaccuracies here and there, but pretty amazing.

**3)** I opened a new chat and uploaded the PDF file directly and asked similar questions. The answers seemed to be just as accurate, but with the PDF file it seemed to add a lot of additional formatting like numbering and bullet points.

Overall I'd say that you can accomplish what you're going for with ChatGPT. You may need to do some testing with books you're familiar with to get a good idea of its capabilities, but they seem mostly there.
