Yeah that's the big thing people don't realize. Well wealth is piling up more and more in the ultra ultra wealthy, the upper class in general is *growing*. So much of the middle class shrink is people in general getting richer..

One interesting way I learned recently to showcase this is how SSI and OASDI payments have become decoupled. When SSI was created, it was at the same monthly average payment as social security. Now despite SSI being tied to inflation, the average social security recipient makes almost double because initial social security payments use wage indexing instead, and wages have grown faster than inflation.
