Currently, the country I'm from (New Zealand) has a [unicameral system](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unicameralism), and there has been some [debate](https://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/HL2307/S00018/enhancing-democracy-the-case-for-a-second-chamber-in-new-zealands-parliament.htm) over whether to reinstate the upper-house, which was [abolished in 1951](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Zealand_Legislative_Council). Now that I'm living in Australia, where we elect an [upper-house](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Upper_house), I've started to have some questions about how upper-houses should function and whether they are the best system for government. For instance:

* **What are the advantages and disadvantages of a bicameral parliament verses a unicameral one?** * **What's the best way to elect or appoint members of the upper-house?** * **How long should upper-house members serve compared to the lower-house?** * **How do you prevent deadlocks between the two houses?** * **And which country(s) have the best model of bicameralism?**
