I'm totally green to investing. I came across some sort of 5% APY account offered by Robin Hood, and have started thinking about parking some money, short term. I have about $30K cash that's just sitting in a checking account. The money will be used for a house down payment in about a year, give or take.

What are some typical avenues for short-term gains, with the ability to withdraw it in a year or so.

I'm looking for something fairly low risk (low risk, meaning if it doesn't mature at all or even loses a FEW thousand; I'm not concerned at all, and the chances of losing significantly more than that is VERY low), and something where I'll have the ability to withdraw it, in full, in about a year.

Also, I'll be adding $1000 a month to this fund over the course of the year...
