There are a ton of problems with his documentary and the follow up. Ignoring the poorly aged Jared Fogle feature, in the second it opens with him opening a fast food chain and talking to the CEO of Panera, a fast food chain that is NOT healthy, but does its best to make it appear such.
The biggest problem is that the documentary scapegoats the fast food industry for the obesity epidemic. Are people who eat fast food everyday unhealthy? I’d say most if not all are, but how many people eat nothing but McDonalds? We still have a growing obesity problem and fast food has stopped being cheap. This ignore the broader problems with high fructose corn syrup and additives put in normal food like bread. It ignores the fact that we’ve lost a lot of culinary common knowledge so people don’t know how to cook healthy meals anymore. There are so many more reasons why we have an obesity epidemic, and it’s not solely fast foods fault.
