Hmm? I'm not saying they never damage society, but this seems like a ridiculous and privileged statement.

I'd be careful with saying *should* and I'd also be careful saying *value*. Ultimately people get paid when they reach an agreement to provide something for money. Value is a loaded term with a lot of definitions. But broadly people get paid whatever they can get paid. It's unlikely you'll find an employer willingly paying more than an employee would take, nor an employee taking below what the employer would pay. It might seem semantic but it's important.

As for what they *should* be getting paid, why would that be tied to value to society? Who is ranking everyone? Does performance or ability matter or just title? If two people reach an agreement but you think they're overpaid will you reduce their pay to be inline with their societal value?
