Honest question. Despite the whole, “government control bad!” aspect, what are the major downsides to a currency that is able to cut down on illicit trade and counterfeiting via better tracking? From my understanding, bribery, money laundering, and a whole host of illicit financial activities would be almost impossible in their current form under a system like this.
I can see there are obvious issues surrounding centralized control and oversight like with any resource, but I think that’s a systemic issue and not exactly a CBDC issue.
Again, I’m not saying it’s a good idea, our current system is certainly not ready for something like this, I’m just trying to gain a better understanding of the larger issues.
