I understand that, and many cultures have different death rituals. I've always leaned more toward the philosophy of "live, laugh, love, and leave." I want my body to return to nature, just put me in a sheet in the ground, and let the worms do their thing. Plant a tree above me.

I'd much rather have people remember me by my good works. Take whatever money I have left and start a scholarship fund in my name, or make as big a donation as possible to a worthy charity or public institution (museum, university, library, hospital, etc.) and slap my name on it. Something like that.

As for physical reminders of a life, my grandparents are in the ground, and it's been years since I've seen their headstones. But I treasure some things I have that used to belong to my grandfathers. An antique gold watch from one, a silver bracelet, pair of cufflinks, and a tie bar from the other. I think of them fondly, each time I wear these items, and find that a much better memento of lives well-lived.
