Eh, it could go either way... Trump hasn't particularly set up a successor.

So realistically they'd have to hold a primary... Which honestly I think would go similarly to the 2020 DNC primary. In that alot of people would participate, but if the moderates realize they'll lose power again they're more likely to coalesce around a single name or two, while the fringe wing of the party will be struggling to agree.

Much like how Biden wasn't any sort of obvious default winner early on in 2020 primaries, but as the more main stream Dems saw that the divided playing field might benefit Bernie or Warren... They realized they could agree on Biden.
