Fair enough, allow me to elaborate. In case you weren’t aware, the early 2010’s were some of the most challenging years for anyone who stood up to the religious right, if you challenged their narrative, you were discredited. They didn’t go as far as silencing political opponents, like the Democrats are doing now, but it was pretty obvious at the time that was the direction things were going. As to why I call it soft fascism, well the definition of fascism, unlike what your average liberal arts major will tell you, is simply a system of government in which all facets of the society it governs are set up to increase the power and authority of the state. For the religious right this took the form of prayer in schools and some businesses, as well as religious panics over things like Harry Potter, LOTR, and video games. Anything that challenged the religious hegemony was attacked without mercy. Fast forward ten years later, and now the left is in control, and they are engaged in similar tactics, silencing political opponents, dog piling any media or individual that challenges their narrative, and suppressing any information that does not reinforce the message they are trying to push. As the the comment about James Buchanan, he was the president who presided over the start of the civil war, and basically sat and watched as the country erupted into flames and did fuck all to stop it, making him and Woodrow Wilson effectively tied for the worst president in history.
