Same here, I'm a Democrat. The previous governor, Kasich, also holds a little of my respect. They were giving federal money away for Obamacare (expansion of Medicare, etc) when it was first enacted and the vast majority of red states declined it. There were little to no strings attached so they were doing it out of spite. Despite pressure from Ohio's congress, he took the money. The expansion allowed my dad to qualify and he was finally able to see a doctor. Due to catching something early, they were able to treat him. They said if he hadn't caught it so early, he would have been dead within the next 2-3 years. Obamacare saved his life.

There's a ton of things I dislike Kasich for, but unlike many of his peers, he seemed to do the right thing when it counted. I'd never vote for the guy but I wouldn't have been as gobsmacked if he had won the Republican primary instead of Trump -- lesser of the two evils.

Slight tangent: I think Trump is so bad at being president because he doesn't care about what history thinks of him, his legacy. Or rather, I think he is so narcissistic that he truly believes history will be kind to him, claim he is a great man. I think that barrier is what keeps most politicians from going completely off the rails. I call it the great filter - and it keeps U.S politicians from going full Trump.
