As teen in the Bush era I 100% considered myself a right-wing conservative.
This was at least partially because I got some enjoyment out of arguing with people with more liberal views, partially because my dad regularly had Rush Limbaugh on in the car, and substantially because I’d stumbled onto a bunch of right wing blogs that at first made basic sense but later spiraled into a lot of questionable shit. I also had a pretty limited idea of the real world.
By the time I was 18 (and had worked actual jobs and had spent some time in college) my viewpoints had completely flipped, and they’ve never gone back.
