The same way that cops lying harms their credibility in cases where they're actually telling the truth. Them thinking "the ends justify the means" in convicting the 1st person, reduces the chances of convicting the 2nd and 3rd person.

It's also stupid, because simply being honest will also show that McDonalds is unhealthy (not that anyone ever thought it was healthy to begin with).
