Everyone likes to spout this line like it means something, but it really doesn't. Russia's only severely attritional conflict that they "won" was the Eastern Front in WW2. This isn't applicable to the modern day/Ukraine becuase:

1) The west's utterly massive Lend-Lease program kept Russia afloat. They did not have the industrial and/or logistical capacity to maintain their military

2) Russia was fighting a defensively against the Nazi invasion. Russia's landmass is massive, allowing them to bleed land for time. Blitzkrieg did not work in Russia like it did in France because Russia always had more land to retreat to - and German fuel reserves were critically low at this point, meaning their strategic mobility was limited.

Right now, Russia is attacking, not defending, and lacks the military/industrial support of the developed world. Combine this with their rampant corruption and awful demographics and you have a recipe for failure as long as the west keeps supporting Ukraine. Plus, the Russian military has been defeated repeatedly in open combat (ie real war, not policing actions or occupations) throughout history. Contrary to the memes, they are not some mystical culture of raw machismo and bears, they're a backwards and corrupt.
