I don’t have a specific question here, just interested in reading the views of others on the topic.

Recently there has been a lot of talk about a Capital Markets Union here in Europe in order to enable companies to access larger amounts of money and to boost the EU tech and financial sectors. There is a growing push from governments to make this capital markets union a reality.

I’m considering allocating around 5% of my portfolio to a Euro tech etf to try and capture a potentially growing European tech sector over the next 15 years, boosted by the possibility of a Capital markets union.

As I see it, there are several major risks involved here:

1. The EU is very bureaucratic, it could take decades to make this union a reality. It was originally proposed in 2015 and is still barely off the ground.

2. The effect of a capital markets union may not be very big.

3. EU tech has previously underperformed other larger tech sectors such as in America.

4. Some countries may not ever want to take part, and in Europe there has to be a consensus for something like this to happen. Although there is talk of countries like France and Germany setting up their own smaller scale union.

I understand the risks involved here, curious to read your opinions, thanks.
