A little background - I have 2 brokerage. One where I save 20% of my gross take home and is earmarked for retirement. What goes into this account doesn’t get touched until retirement. The other is an account where I put anything extra. I carve out some money for future home repair, car purchase, big ticket item etc. I haven’t needed to liquidate any funds in that account yet and I’ve had it for some time. I use the same strategy in that account as I do my retirement with regard to asset allocation. Everything is in ETFs and mutual funds.
When it does come time to liquidate some funds, are there any particular strategies to follow? Sell the over performers? Sell a little bit of each to keep the ratios on? Sell enough extra to cover the taxes?
