I’ve had little religious exposure in the past, so I’ve only heard canonize in contexts regarding the accuracy of lore in fictional settings. So at first, I took the comment as poking fun at religion being fictional works.

A wikipedia page I was reading at the time, about Mother Teresa of Calcutta corrected my mistake when I read she was canonized in 2018.

Before this, I would’ve guessed ordained was the proper verbiage but that’s just for priesthood.
