I wrote an ITM covered call on an position I held. When I wrote the call there was 0 Volume (except for my trades) and 0 OI for that contract which I thought meant it would expire and I would profit. However, when I woke up the positions I held in the underlying asset were liquidated, as if the option was exercised but when I looked before I went to bed there was still no additional volume and 0 OI. Can someone explain what happened? Does an ITM contract auto exercise even if there isn’t Open Interest in the contract?
