The union is not run by the state.

Kids still go to school because they put 30+ kids in a class to accommodate the teacher shortage and/or put unqualified people in the rooms.

Resource Rooms are left un-staffed because there are no qualified candidates.

Salaries cannot just simply be raised overnight because of the aforementioned union contracts and government budgets.

My wife’s first salary as a teacher was $28k. 12 years, one masters degree, and two state certifications later, she makes $67k as a resource room special education teacher. Her school has had two fifth grade teachers and the principal quit in the last month. A new principal was hired from the classroom of another school in the district. The two fifth grade classes are being staffed by long term subs that don’t have education degrees.
