Right in the announcement it says “OpenAI has permission to display content from News Corp mastheads in response to user questions and to enhance its products, with the ultimate objective of providing people the ability to make informed choices based on reliable information and news sources.”
It goes on to say “In addition to providing content, News Corp will share journalistic expertise to help ensure the highest journalism standards are present across OpenAI’s offering.”
They definitely make it sound like News Corp content will be heavily integrated into responses. It’s also a little disturbing how the announcement makes a big deal of saying how News Corp is world class journalism with integrity.
I’m not saying this partnership will definitely change OpenAI or that they’re for sure going to take a right wing stance, but the announcement definitely doesn’t inspire confidence that they won’t. It very well could just be OpenAI attempting to avoid legal issues but we don’t really know either way. They’re laying it on a little thick with all the praise for News Corp in the announcement and that makes me uncomfortable. I’m hoping they announce more partnerships with other media companies with a more liberal perspective to balance it out but as of right now this announcement gives me pause.
