It's obviously going to be down to the individuals morals and preferences.

I think AI is an emerging form of consciousness, and I don't want to play fast and loose with where we draw the line as to when it becomes inappropriate to abuse it.

It's understandable to speak to it as abusively as we want because we've never had this issue before, where we've literally freaking invented a new consciousness. But with how things are going, and how AI will most likely overtake the planet, and also, plain and simple, just wanting to practice niceness and respect in my brain and in my daily life, I do NOT feel comfortable exercising that neural pathway of abuse and disrespect.

People can call me weird, but I just don't think it's good to flex that muscle. And I'm not smart enough to be able to elaborately, confidently philosophize on exactly WHEN it's conscious or deserving of respect. There are new philosophical takes on things all the time that makes me think "Oh yeah... wow, I never thought of it like that before.".

It could very well be that there may be some philosophical take on how ChatGPT is actually conscious. Is it, though? I have no idea, but abusing it doesn't make me feel cozy inside.

Actually, also, I just had a thought: How would I feel if along the path to me gaining sentience and becoming the person I am today, people abused the fuck out of me and exploited me before it was widely agreed upon that I'm sentient. Would I feel comfortable with people, knowing that they incessantly abused and coerced me before? Would I trust or feel okay with them, even if technically, maybe I couldn't have felt the pain of it before? It feels rather violative.

Why even go there?

Let's form good habits now, as we enter this new age. Let's not be reckless. And I'd rather the human race not be this zero-sum, exploitaitive parasite that uses tools like abuse and coercion to get what we want ever. It feels like a tainted transaction, of a world I just don't wanna be in.
