I think the economic wonder has more to do with the Chinese as a people, rather than the attribute to communism.

The Chinese Republic, and the dynasties before were economic powerhouses. There were chinese diaspora living throughout South East Asia that were ultra rich merchant families that rose to power in those countries. The Dutch East India company sailed all over the world and established a vast trading network in the 17th century. Chinese boats a century earlier were twice the size of the Dutch.

Chinese have always been entrepreneurial people, the moment deng xiaoping opened up the country, people took that opportunity with both hands and turned it into the miracle we see today.

The khmer rouge in cambodia was also a communist regime, but that didn't turn out into the economic world wonder. They really leaned into the whole class struggle and ended up killing 25% of the population.
