"text": "Retail prices surged during COVID and haven't returned to pre-COVID levels. That's somewhat predictable economics - sellers simply realized raising prices didn't hurt profits, so they don't see a need to lower them. But it does generate a lot of street-level discontent and commentary on social media, where it's almost a crime to say times are good, like if you're actually doing fine you're a class traitor. And this is on top of the fact that people normally complain a lot more than they express how happy they are. \n\nSo most of the voices we hear are going to be negative. That's not saying those individual people are wrong about their personal situation, just that they're overrepresented. Someone can say, \"IDGAF what so-called 'economic indicators' are saying, I'm telling you firsthand the economy sucks!\" But that's very similar to, \"IDGAF what so-called 'scientists' say - summer is *always hot* and we had record snow last Winter - 'Global Warming' my ass!\" Both sentiments are just looking at the world through their own lens - totally normal human behavior - each thinking they're smarter than the other.",
