For those who don't know, Max is a MIT professor who wrote Life 3.0. Like other AI thinkers, such as Nick Bolstrom and more recently Elon Musk, Tegmark et al. are in the camp of AI being humanity's existential threat if development to AGI isn't harnessed.

I'd argue regulations will ultimately fail, as bad state actors and authoritarian regimes won't play ball. They will use rogue third parties as annexes to create LLM to fulfill their own agendas... to defeat perceived enemies that threaten their sovereignty and claim to power.

Animal and human nature would ultimately prevail. These "new species" will eventually surpass our collective intelligence. They will be weaponized by one side who wields "superintelligence" as slave tools to defeat the other.
