I'll premise by saying I support providing weapons / resources / intel to Ukraine and I am 100% against Russian aggression and expansionary policy. I also believe that Ukraine needs to strike inside of Russia in order to ultimately repel the attack and survive.
To play contrarian, what does the US and/or NATO owe Ukraine? They're not a member of NATO. They haven't been offered formal membership. Why is Ukraine unique in this conflict when there's other humanitarian issues happening that aren't drawing a similar level of attention? US and NATO support and involvement do not happen in a vacuum.
Russia is not a rational actor in this. They're strengthening ties with other US adversaries (China, North Korea, Iran, etc...) to secure weapons. Putin is reported to have significant health issues and wants to leave a lasting impact. Russia has incurred western sanctions, caused additional countries to apply for and join NATO and taken severe casualties in their invasion.
To that end, why "poke the bear"? Why force Russia into a situation where they escalate to a nuclear option? They're no stranger to false flag operations, why give them an excuse? Why not sit back and let Putin destroy his standing and ideology from within? The longer this drags on, the more fatigued the Russian military is, the more munitions and equipment they cycle through, the less power and allies Putin has within Russia. The number of Russian casualties has been astounding. How long will it take for them to rebuild once this ends, however it will? I'd say the US / NATO have a vested interest in allowing Russia to toil in a meat grinder while we provide *just* enough support to keep Ukraine upright without falling.
